Japanese Model: Nozomi Sasaki

Posted on July 30, 2012 by Chris Kincaid

Nozomi Sasaki at age 11Nozomi Sasaki is a popular model and commercial actress. She was born in Akita Prefecture in 1988, and began modeling at 14. She is also a commentator for mixed martial arts and kickboxing competitions. Reportedly she is blood type AB.

She started her film career in 2009, after she retired from modeling. She was accused of getting too “chubby.” Come about is fair play I guess? She has some unflattering nicknames like No Mercy because she reportedly bullied other models during her teen years for being “fat.”At any rate, she has starred in various television shows. She also dabbles in music. Her first single debuted at number one on the Oricon chart.

Her first hit commercial is a goofy LOTTE chewing gum commercial.  The dance and song are goofy (with a touch of Japanese weird for us Westerners).

Nozomi has made some inroads to international recognition. Despite being retired from modeling, she remains very popular with magazines and the people. She appeals equally to males and females.

I don’t normally do a biography focus, but if you enjoy this post, let me know. I will highlight other Japanese cultural icons.
